Wellness and Preventive Care for All Ages

Unifour Family Practice strongly believes that regular Well Child exams are critical to track growth and development and to detect any early signs of developmental delay. They also provide an opportunity to guide parents through each developmental milestone for optimal health. We see children from newborn through adulthood, and follow the schedule of Well Child visits recommended by the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The Kids in Parks program has established a network of trails designed to provide kids and families with fun outdoor activities. Through their TRACK Rx program, our providers are promoting this program and formally prescribing our patients to get active outdoors and reconnected to nature through this exciting program. Vaccines & Immunizations

We follow the vaccine schedule as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC. It has been conclusively proven that vaccines are not responsible for autism. While local reactions and low grade fevers can occur, vaccines are generally safe and clearly beneficial in providing protection against a host of preventable diseases.

Dental Varnish

Healthy teeth and gums are important to your child’s health. To help prevent dental decay (cavities), our providers prescribe oral fluoride supplements starting at age 6 months for children whose water supply may be deficient. Once your child has a tooth, the providers will apply a fluoride varnish to the primary teeth a few times a year.

Sports Injuries

If you have a sports related injury, we can usually arrange an office appointment for initial evaluation within 24 hours of your injury. We are trained in the management of acute injuries, and can expedite further evaluation with an orthopedist or other specialist if needed.

Sports Physical, Camp Physicals, Back to School Physicals and College Physicals

Our providers provide a full range of well child services, which include medical exams, school physical, camp and sports physicals. All related forms should be completed and presented at the time of the visit. We may charge for
forms that are not present at the visit. Please click HERE for the NC High School Sports form.

Behavioral Health Problems

We are comfortable doing evaluations for possible attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and certain behavioral issues in children and adolescents. We use a variety of counseling groups to further aid in making the correct diagnosis and help establish a plan of treatment. We are not eager to use medications, but will prescribe when clearly indicated. Many medicines for ADD are controlled which limits the quantity that can be prescribed and determines how often the patient needs to be seen to monitor efficacy.

For issues which may need more specialized therapy we have a co-management agreement with Cornerstone Counseling. They are located at:

439 1st Avenue NW
Hickory, NC 28601

Newborn Hospital Care

Unifour Family Practice takes care of newborns at both Frye Regional Medical Center and Catawba Valley Medical Center. We also perform neonatal circumcision when requested by the parents.

Adolescent Health

Adolescence can be a very challenging time for parents and teens as they transition to adulthood. Regular wellness visits provide an opportunity for open honest discussion of a host of issues, from peer pressure to physical changes with puberty to sexuality to realistic limits on social media, and more. A host of vaccines are also recommended to protect against the HPV virus and Meningococcal meningitis too. We’re ready to help make that transition as smooth as possible.

Chronic Medical Management

There are some chronic pediatric conditions like allergy, asthma, acne and ADD that require more regular care. We commonly manage these problems and can schedule visits so that they do not interfere with school.
